For more than a 40 year carreer, Freddie McGregor has crossed through the times and remains a wise player and spectator of the evolution of reggae music. He has roamed through every style of popular Jamaican music, from roots to reggae to dancehall. From a very young age he knew he wanted to become a musician. He was influenced by the Studio One’s sound and Clement Coxsone remains his influence in terms of production. In his early stages, his role models were Ken Boothe, Bob Marley and Alton Ellis – As well as other names that he would go on to meet little by little from the artist roots & kulcha’s family album. He continues his career, releasing a considerable number of singles such as « Africa Here I Come», « Lovers' Rock » or « Zion Chant » or « Big Ship » qui sont devenus des classiques. Freddie McGregor also enjoy producing and excels in it with “Black Woman”, Judy Mowatt’s famous album. He also produces Johnny Osbourne, Jennifer Lara, General Degree, Cutty Ranks, Luciano’s albums and so forth. His latest opus « True To My Roots » released in 2016, confirms the artist’s position in the pantheon of today’s Jamaican music legends. Today at the age of 62 years old, experienced Freddie McGregor remains active, as proven by the video clip “Go Freddie Go” in which the Jamaican singer wonderfully plays his role of captain.
